Researchers at Barcelona Supercomputer Center are utilizing reduced precision floating point number formats to improve memory footprint and decrease bandwidth and processing time specifically to boost training of Deep Neural Networks. The team is using MareNorstrum4, a cluster with Intel Xeon Scalable processors and Intel OPA, to evaluate new algorithms with AI instructions to increase performance and reduce power.
