Roundtripping refers to the process of converting a particular document or file from its original format to a new one, then converting it back to the original format again later.

An example of Roundtripping is converting a Microsoft Word document into a new format for use/editing in a different word processing program, then converting it back to Microsoft’s Word document format again afterwards.
