PURL (short for Persistent Uniform Resource Locator) is a type of URL that acts as an intermediary that redirects requests to the proper location (real URL) of a web resource.

Once a PURL is established, it never needs to change and will remain persistent regardless of alterations in the real URL due to changes in servers, hosts, etc.
